Of what stuff be these men made?

'…all the Senate Committee on Intelligence can say is “Tsk-tsk. Naughty boy.”'

I draw my moral sense, and strength of purpose, from the days when my mother sent me and a sister packing every Sunday morning to a United Church Sunday School. There’s plenty of good stuff in the Good Book.

It’s on this fundamental philosophical premise that I’m always shocked, outraged, and dismayed by liars, bullies, and cowards. Cowardice is what stands out in a panel report made public this week in Washington.

The U.S. Senate Committee on Intelligence concludes that President George W. Bush led his country into war under a cover of lies and exaggerations. More than 4,000 American young have been killed and tens of thousands wounded. More than 100,000 of the civilian population of the targeted country killed and thousands yet uncounted wounded. Yet the panel that drew the conclusions doesn't call for penalties or a follow-up inquiry.

President Bush and his gang should be tried at least for treason and crimes against humanity. Those who fail to pay fines for not wearing seatbelts will have their driver’s license suspended. Let some benighted woman on welfare stumble on a way to squeeze a hundred dollars from the system and the wrath of the state will pounce on her.

But George W. Bush can attack a foreign country under false pretences, kill tense of thousands, squander a trillion dollars on this fraudulent exercise, and, to boot, mortgage Capitalist America to Communist China and all the Senate Committee on Intelligence can say is “Tsk-tsk. Naughty boy.”

Talk about a law for the criminal and a law for the innocent — never mind a law for the rich and a law for the poor.

That Bush has no shame he has proven time and again but so this week a jury of his peers has also shown no shame — and no courage.
