More than a year ago while having lunch with a subscriber to True North Perspective the man sitting opposite me earnestly asked why I used copy from the office of Martin D. Weiss, a market analyst based in Jupiter, Florida. Well, I said, that group seems to have as sharp an eye on world markets as you can find anywhere.
“But they’re so right wing.”
I shrugged and said, “Are their facts accurate?” When he conceded that they were accurate, I said, “That’s good enough for me.”
What made the exchange more interesting than usual was the fact that my lunch partner was a born and raised Conservative. He’s always voted Conservative, he has a support our troops sticker on his car, and he’ll take private business enterprise over government enterprise any time. By the measure of our country’s political spectrum, he himself is right wing. So here was a right-winger expressing alarm about a right-winger.
Politics is a strange business in which passions and prejudices are hotly expressed. There are those on the left (far left) who would call our guest columnist, Fidel Castro, a right-winger. This may sound queer and funny to the ear to those inexperienced in the world of fevered opinions. Too many don’t think analytically. Somewhere along the line, before they reached voting age, their natural born capacity for critical thinking was replaced with labels. And so they slap labels hither and yon. A tragic waste of the major personal human resource.
True North Perspective is determined to provide our readers with balanced information to the fullest extent of our ability. Lies, by whatever name, are intolerable. To listen to that spewed from the pathological minds of the Bush-Cheney gang. even now, as they would drag the world into another war based on sheer greed, is more than enough to make one want to take a hot shower with laundry soap.
Whether you agree with them or not Weiss and Castro come across as honest brokers. True North Perspective will continue to publish accounts by these men, not because we necessarily agree with what they contend, but in the public interest. Learning and knowledge, seeking the truth, are the premise and theme of this publication. And ever more will be so.
Meanwhile, have a Happy Canada Day.
Looking forward.
