As Americans exercise stupidity with a stubborn streak
Harper shows signs of a cool breeze on a fevered brain
Like innocent eager tourists in a Morocco bazaar the gang of dishonest dullards in the American White House continue to be led by the proverbial nose with blinders on by the skilful traders of the Arab and Persian worlds. It’s almost breathtaking to observe the occidental gullibles cluck and chatter about the so-called success of the so-called surge. Blinded by their own arrogance, by the contempt with which they hold their adversaries, they’re missing the sea change that has taken place.
Like a victim who has spent $10,000 at bingo and then triumphantly waves a $25 turkey won in one game they point with glee at the reduction — not elimination — in U.S. military deaths in Baghdad during past weeks (never mind the million Iraqis that have been mostly killed during the American invasion). What they don’t realize is that there has been a fundamental development in strategy by their opponents.
When the central government, at U.S.-British behest, attacked Basra a few months ago they were beaten back by Shiite forces thoroughly entrenched at the grassroots. It was not Bush’s “coalition of the willing” but Iran that stepped in and brokered a peaceful resolution. The momentum in the conflict was lost to the Americans and gained by Iran.
The British, meanwhile, save face by garrisoning the airport. A good place to be when you want to get out fast.
What incredible irony. The Americans, guided by a heady mix of arrogance and wishful thinking, establish a Shiite government in Baghdad. It never dawned on them that this government, fervent soul mates of the Shiites who run Tehran, would ever bite the hand that fed them. The shallow Americans just could not, and still do not, fathom the philosophical depth of the millions whom they would dominate as master and puppet.
Saving face in that part of the world is so fundamental that women are stoned to death for adultery. Men will be hung, or whipped to shreds, for theft. Revenge for psychological injury, humiliation, is a matter of life or death as serious as drinking water is for the thirsty, as eating is for the starving. It’s baffling that the dumbbells in Washington can’t even understand that.
So what the Iraqis, on the advice of their peers across the border in Iran, are doing is calling the American bluff. Bush says the troops will be pulled out when there is peace. His “allies” say, okay let there be peace. So go. And so the Americans have been told. Even given deadlines.
As an added incentive, these same Wogs, to use an occidental (originally British) pejorative for the Arab-Persian low-lifes, are stirring things up in Afghanistan. Smoke and mirrors and the Americans are completely fooled.
We said it here from the beginning, America, on a stack of lies that matched Hitler’s claim of being victim, attacked Iraq to secure for itself that vast pool of sweet oil. A stupid a blunder that may well mark, I certainly hope, the low point of stupidity in the 21st century. They moved into an area of the world where everyone else has nationalized this prime resource. Why should the Iraqis want anything different? They don’t. They want the oil revenues for themselves.
Today they’re laughing up their sleeves at a spent military force being foolish enough to be siphoned off to do battle in Afghanistan.
Ahhh…Afghanistan! Where the poppies grow row on row … where 90 per cent of the world’s opium is produced …where the president is in league with the growers…where the British and American military adopt a hands-off policy because they don’t want to make anyone mad.
Prime Minster Stephen Harper may have finally seen the light. As a story below suggests, he has scaled back Canadian ambitions in that hapless county. Save face Prime Minister. But get out as fast as you can.
If only the Americans would study and learn from their own history. To be fair, many, perhaps now even the majority, of Americans do understand but that ugly gang of lowbrow miscreants currently in control is hopeless.
So with a victorious surge behind them in Baghdad, they eagerly move forward through the sacred poppy fields under the firm and brilliant direction of Tehran. Breathtaking indeed.
Meanwhile, take it easy but take it.
Looking forward.
